Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, "everyone can be great because everyone can serve." Across the United States and around the world, million s of young people are making a difference in their communities, schools and neighborhoods by "adopting" senior citizens, doing ecology projects, tutoring younger students, and aiding the hungry and the homeless. They are working alone and in groups to identify problems and implement solutions.
Learning for Life's new citizenship program is called "KidServeTM: kids giving back to their communities." Citizenship is a method by which Learning for Life participants can learn and develop through active involvement in thoughtfully organized service that is:
Citizenship can be a powerful tool for helping to develop responsible citizenship in our youth. It expands the learning environment beyond the limitation of a meeting or classroom, makes an impression on participants that lives on after the meeting or class has ended, and provides an essential connection to help participants recognize that what they are learning is relevant to the world around them.
